Okay, it's nanowrimo time again. But first, I've got other purposes for this blog. Let's discuss what I plan on discussing.
* Game design - I'm learning to make games right now. This probably won't go anwhere.
* Plants - This is my biggest hobby. I will be talking about my plants.
* Languages - I'm a student of Russian, and I wanna pick up some Scandinavian languages and Inuktitut on the side.

I like coming up with titles for chapters and stories a lot. Moreso than actually writing them, or at least it seems that way lately. Here's one idea I've had. There's a two part (maybe three part) short story/set of chapters called "Kentucky, Dark Maps, the Big Sky and You." The two parts aren't really related and don't even take place in the same storyline, although the main characters in both are related (not that closely, though). The themes, or overall mood, at least, are kind of similar. I'm not trying to be pretentious or anything. I like the idea of a sort of mazelike chapter progression just because I think it'd be cool. I also like the idea of hiding chapters across different webservers.
Anyway, these stories are sort of urban fantasy. They're set on a fantasy world, but there's not really any magic (maybe), and technology is fairly contemporary.
Characters --
Pt. 1
Zane - A note on spelling conventions. If a name would be pronounced the same as an English name, or close enough, I'm using the English spelling. If I'd used the spelling system from the conlangs I'm pretending to have made, I'd probably spell this as Zejn, and then it'd just look Dutch, and we can't have none of that, now.
Zane's a 17 or 18 year old boy at the time of this story. He has a long and mostly fictitious backstory, and is fluent in something like ten languages because he moved around a lot when he was young. His parents went missing when he was very young and he lived with an aunt for awhile, but she also went missing. He now lives with a foster family. He's loosely related to an expatriated family of former nobles, who want him back with them.
He's generally a nice guy although a bit wistful and incoherent at times, and has a history of wandering off to places, getting lost, showing up in secret passageways and back allies, and freaking people out (for fun, maybe?). People tend to like him, and he's a bit manipulative and tries to keep a little personality cult around him. He also does well in school, although he's friends with a lot of the teachers and they tend to be lenient towards him. Whether or not leniance or friendship is the ultimate goal there isn't really known.
He has a history of doing custodial work at shopping malls he likes and churches.
